WITH reference to the parking debate for Witney (which we knew nothing about!) I would not say it is a joke, but certainly could be improved upon.

Before I had a blue badge, my husband often had difficulty finding a space in the Woolgate car park, especially on Saturdays and Thursdays. Getting out of the car park can be and often is problematic, especially if a car is trying to turn right with a queue behind it trying to exit the car park.

I mentioned removing the disabled bay from the shop mobility/toilet area, and increasing the existing bays by one to compensate, thus making another exit. The council agreed it was a good idea but has never done so.

We are lucky to have free parking, which is why it is often difficult to find a space – parking in Oxford, as Mark Davies said, is prohibited! Most places charge (all parking should be free and part of council tax payment).

I agree with JJ Cypher about about abuse of blue badge parking by blue badge holders; something my husband would never do if I am not with him, however hard it is to find a space.

I have been sworn at in the past when I ticked off an able-bodied driver parked in the disabled bay at Carterton whilst he used the post office. Sadly the car park warden can’t always check every badge holder. It shouldn’t, but abuse will always happen because people can’t be bothered to walk a little further even when able to do so.

But certainly consider moving that bay next to shop mobility – it would help congestion a lot.
