I FOUND Robert Sephton’s letter (February 1) about public loos or lack of in Oxford interesting.
On New Year’s Day we went to Bourton-on-the-Water and there were crowds of people there.
The toilets in the car park by Birdland were closed, as were the toilets at the other end of the main road near the discount china shop.
The only ones open were the ones in the coach park that are privately owned.
I spoke to one of the shopkeepers who we have got to know well and she said the closed loos were council-owned but they employ a private firm to open them and keep them clean.
The toilets have always opened on New Year’s Day.
The queue for the toilet in the tea room we frequent was seven deep and stood in a narrow passage where staff were finding it difficult to get by with meals etc.
The shopkeeper said she would pass on my concerns to the appropriate body.
