IN LIGHT of recent correspondence on the subject of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) it is worth reminding readers of the devastating effects that animal farming has on the environment, which is all too evident in the news right now.

It is a common observation that people in the Far East suffer less from cancer and circulatory diseases than people in the Western world. Yet as the Western diet is adapted in the Far East, so the rates of cancer increase as a direct result.

Anyone doubting the authenticity of this observation should take a walk through any of the hospitals around the country. By doing so one can appreciate the perils of eating animal produce.

PETA is not only concerned with animal welfare, it is concerned for all life on the planet, and as such is the only true environmental group worthy of any consideration.
