THE UNDIGNIFIED spat between David Cameron and Oxford County Council leader Ian Hudspeth would be comical if it weren’t so serious.
Mr Cameron questioned the council’s judgement in closing local services, saying there surely must be better ways of saving money such as backroom efficiency, only for Mr Hudspeth to counter with the grim fact that all those sort of savings have already been made.
Is Mr Cameron really so blind to the stark realities of his Government’s austerity measures? One way that extra savings could be made, of course, would be for Britain to leave the EU. £55m per day would go a long way to saving services up and down the country. However, I somehow cannot see this as figuring in either man’s calculations.
