I AM writing on behalf of the Oxford Urban Wildlife Group to appeal for the future preservation of the Lye Valley Fen.
It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) because it contains 1.5 hectares of a rare calcareous valley fen. There are only 19 hectares of this type of habitat in the whole of England.
The proposed development of the Warren Meadow area is likely to destroy the essential properties of this rare calcareous water supply in this invaluable habitat so Oxford Urban Wildlife Group is very concerned about the future of this rare habitat with its unique flora and fauna.
Warren Meadow also provides a valuable open space for residents in the Town Furze estate – especially the local children.
