IT IS extremely insulting of the Vale of White Horse District Council and anyone else to imply that the older vocal minority who write in about planning documents live in some sort of bubble, only acting selfishly and putting forward views on what they themselves want in an area, rejecting any change.
Don’t forget that most of these ‘older people’ have families, children or grandchildren, whose lives and wellbeing they care about and spend their time working hard for.
They have seen more change in their lives than younger generations.
They also have sufficient knowledge and experience, professional and personal, to be able to see the bigger picture and to see longer into the future, as well as the confidence to approach authorities to try to shape change.
Indeed, they may have more experience and knowledge than the authorities they are dealing with.
Older people have a responsibility, for the sake of future generations, to fight to get the best possible change in an area, not just any change.
If residents of Botley in years to come look at a failed new ‘town centre’, won’t they ask how we let this happen?
