AS A RESIDENT of Oxford living within walking distance of the new station I have watched the construction of both the building and car park as I pass.
Although I assume the project managers expect the majority of rail passengers to arrive by car or bus it is very likely that large numbers of people who live close enough will wish to walk or cycle.
The footpaths that lead to the station have always been neglected and offer a very untidy entry into the city.
Hedges and weeds encroach and limit the width of the paths on both sides of this busy road which will be the introduction to Oxford for visitors who chose to arrive at the station.
The footpaths should be cleared so their full width can be utilised and overhanging trees and shrubs cut back to allow safe passage.
A dedicated cycle path would help keep cycles and pedestrians apart.
Please act now before the station opens.
