BEFORE Oxfordshire County Council even consider a new stretch of dual carriageway for the A40, I hope they will consider the following issues.

Firstly, what will be the ecological impacts and necessary mitigation for the Oxford Meadows SAC, the wetland habitats of the former gravel extraction site at Cassington and the Eynsham community woodland?

Secondly, what will be the impacts on the communities of Eynsham and Cassington? And finally, how will creating another huge road do anything to encourage more sustainable long term transport solutions for Oxfordshire?

I hope that the desire to get government money for short term solutions doesn’t override a well thought through and truly sustainable solution to the congestion problems on the A40.
