WHAT a disgrace that Britain is refusing to take its fair share of refugees.
There are plenty of residents, churches and communities in Oxfordshire willing to take in families, at least on a temporary basis.
But they won’t get the chance because the Conservative Government refuses to act in solidarity with other European nations.
Taking in just a handful of needy Syrians from the camps close to Syria, and plundering the overseas aid budget to do it, is downright shameful.
Of course British people should be proud of the significant amount of aid we are giving to the Syrian refugees in camps close to their own country.
But charity begins at home. It’s what we do here in Britain to assist the refugees that really matters.
The citizens of Oxfordshire have demonstrated their support for the people escaping the terrible Syrian civil war. It is high time the British Government welcomed a decent share of refugees.
Then Oxford residents could show our generosity and our hospitality.
