REGARDING the article “Memorial for First World War VC recipient to be set in stone”.
This new stone in memory of my grandfather Edward Brooks VC, pictured above, will be paid for out of the £5,000 I offered to Horspath Parish Council to pay for a permanent war memorial to be placed on the village green.
Unfortunately, in its wisdom, the parish council told me it did not want my money because it has plenty of its own. My money was not good enough apparently.
Now 18 months later and after the village residents have given their backing to the idea we are no further forward and the parish council is still dragging its feet. If it had accepted my offer the memorial would now be in place and would be the centrepiece of the village.
