ROGER Dudman Way continues to be in the news. It seems to be universally agreed it has been a mistake on a major scale which now needs to be put right.

But what of new applications which may now be going through the planning process? Are these new major developments being appraised to the standards recommended in the independent report by Vincent Goodstadt?

One recommendation was that there should be: “A more structured approach to the weekly lists to enable the ready identification of major developments.” Can major developments now be easily identified? I for one haven’t found this easy to do.

The independent report also recommends a number of improvements to the planning process. Can the public be assured that these are now being implemented? Can we be assured that major developments will be required to show that they meet the requirements of local and national planning policies? Can we be assured that the public will be meaningfully engaged in consultation and that observations from the public will be given more weight?

I certainly hope that decisions about major developments are now being delivered to a much higher standard than in the case of Roger Dudman Way.
