Recent events in the media highlight two problems of public interest:

1. Lord Janner is accused of child abuse in the 1980s, but no action is to be taken as he now has severe dementia, so how many other perverts are there in the higher echelons of politics?

He should be charged and found unfit to plead and made subject to detention in a secure mental hospital such as Broadmoor.

2. A High Court judge rules that Muslim women can give evidence with their face covered. I respect their religious views, but while giving evidence, body language tells so much.

A vein throbbing at the side of the head, the Adams apple bobbing, frequently licking the lips, a nervous cough, wiping sweat from the brow, failure to look to the jury, judge and barristers in the eye/face. Answering a question with a question to play for time, saying “I don’t remember” if they can’t remember, how can they deny? Requesting an interpreter when they can understand English, so getting even more time to think.

Anyone who has experienced interviewing will know these signs. All witnesses can be nervous but there are natural nerves and guilty nerves.

With the face covered, the female could even be another woman.

Nothing in the Quran says the face has to be covered, just that females should be modestly clothed.

I have nothing against Muslims but these women must not be allowed to play this card.

If we go abroad, our women must respect the host country’s culture, traditions and values.
