Regarding the proposed ban on lorries overtaking on the A34 (April 15), here we go again with pen pushers doodling trying to change people’s way of life.

Oxfordshire County Council should formulate a committee of past and present LGV, bus and coach drivers to discuss ideas that have been resolved successfully elsewhere in the UK.

I guarantee there will be more accidents, injuries and fatalities if this idea goes ahead.

LGV drivers will not be tailgating but there will be insufficient room for a car to exit at the junction at 100kph so will have to go to the next junction.

They tried putting chevrons 100m apart on the M1, M6 and M25. The police could not enforce it through lack of resources. The chevrons no longer exist.

Paul Davies’ comments are true, Neville Harris’ defence of LGV drivers is spot on.

Roz Smith’s idea of putting all freight on the railways is utter nonsense.

Has she seen railway lines in any of Oxford’s streets?

It’s no good saying unload 40 ton containers into a holding area, you will need 40 ton trucks to bring the goods in for delivery. In the road haulage industry, the motto is: goods picked up is goods delivered, don’t get third parties involved, this only incites losses, damage and pilfering.

The answer to this topic is, if you don’t hold an LGV I licence or PSV licence or driven an LGV, truck or bus, seek advice from those that have, not push your opinions onto others.

Like Patrick Greene, I have driven trucks since 1955, aged 16, still have my LGV I licence with no marks on it and my CPC licence.
