At long last after far too many excuses, Horspath Parish Council has now sent out a questionnaire asking, among other things, does the village support the proposal to erect a stone war memorial on the village green?

I and others have been campaigning for well over 12 months to get a memorial on the green and therefore you would think it is good news, but is it?

It appears to me that the council has gone out of its way to make it more complicated than it needs to be.

There are five questions relating to the war memorial idea. They range from: ‘Do you support the idea and do you support the idea of having two comfortable wooden seats (one either side of the memorial)?’ No doubt the next excuses will be: ‘We must ask where exactly the memorial will go on the village green, what colour should it be, how big should it be, and what shape should it be?’ This could go on forever and never get done.

If the parish council put as much effort into the memorial as it puts into worrying about sticking to the rule book, more would get done and it would get more respect from the residents.
