I WAS reading all these letters about the No.8 bus service with fond memories of the service. I used to live at the bottom of the Abingdon Road just before it terminated in Canning Crescent and I used to travel to school on it to St Joseph’s in St Clement’s next to the Port Mahon pub and to my relatives in Northway.
I remember Joyce, a very flamboyant character who used to make us laugh as kids with the cravat he would wear, and also Joe and Mary who were a married couple on the service.
Mary used to let us ring the bell for her which as kids was great fun.
We used to look out for Joe and Mary to run round to Canning Cres to say hello to them. Great days.
