I RECENTLY attended a commemoration of the Liberation of Gennep in Holland and I was able to discover that a Richard Alnwick Shackleton was buried in the same cemetery as my uncle.
Lieutenant RA Shackleton MC was the son of Colonel CO Shackleton OBE, RAMC and his wife Vera who lived in South Newington, near Banbury, in 1944.
I am writing on behalf of a local organisation in Gennep, who are trying to put some background information to those who died in the liberation of their village so that they can ensure that their sacrifices are remembered in the years to come.
They plan to publish a commemorative booklet offering details of their background etc so that they will not be forgotten.
If you are a relative of either Lt Shackleton, or know of this family or where they can be contacted, then I would like to hear from you.
