I was very concerned to read your article (‘More traffic chaos feared as major roadworks loom’, December 15) about the proposed closure of the Cowley Road for three weeks in February.

My experience is that there is traffic chaos when the Cowley Road is closed for one day, such as for the Carnival, let alone three weeks.

The knock on effect in terms of congestion across East Oxford and beyond, for those accessing the city from the south or east could be very serious.

But traffic finds its own ‘solutions’ and the one that bothers many in East Oxford is that residential streets will become even bigger rat-runs and with icy roads and tempers fraying, the risks of accident and injury are significant.

I too urge Cllr Nimmo-Smith to reconsider this closure.
