I was interested to see the photo of the late Pc105 Ken Parkinson on the Triumph 200cc Tiger Club Motorcycle in the letters section recently.

In June 1959 I was a police cadet in the Oxford City Police and attached to the traffic department. I was taught to ride motorbikes by Ken on that motorbike 200 AFC.

I grew up in Derwent Avenue, in a house leased to the Police, my father was the late Eric Tucker. We moved to Headington in December 1958, and the house was allocated to Ken and his wife. Only two officers had the number 105, Ken and Dad. Dad became Sgt 14 and Ken then joined.

Only two officers had the tenancy of Derwent Avenue, Ken and Dad. As they say truth is stranger than fiction. Even stranger Sgt 18 was the late Sam Piper when he was promoted to Inspector PC51 Stan Peterson took his number, both had the initials “SP”.
