I am writing concerning the front page story on October 27 ‘It will only get worse’ and quoting 46,000 workers commuting into the city.

Perhaps if Councillor Ian Hudspeth would look further than the end of his nose he would rectify this problem by doing the following:

1. Make the public transport system viable and affordable if you don’t want cars clogging up the roads. I work in Oxford and would willingly travel by bus, but there is not a bus leaving Bicester early enough to get me to Oxford for a 6.30am start. The only bus that could turns left after Summertown and goes to the JR2.

2. Extend or increase the number of park & ride sites (you only have to go to Cambridge to see how it is done properly) and I feel sure there is land on the outskirts of Oxford that the University will be prepared to sell to increase its already bulging coffers.

3. Build more affordable housing or make the existing properties affordable so that it is not solely for the rich who are the only ones who can afford Oxford house prices.

4. Decrease the parking charges and give the traffic enforcement officers lessons in tact and diplomacy then maybe you will attract those that may wish to drive in.

5. Build a decent bus and coach station and provide parking facilities for the many coaches that visit the city so that they don’t have to cause problems on Osney Mead industrial estate.

There you are Cllr Hudspeth – it ain’t rocket science it just requires a bit of thought.
