The county council’s plan to build a tunnel underneath Oxford’s High Street is even more insane than their other traffic schemes (Council unveils plan for tunnel under Oxford city centre to ease congestion, October 16).

What is beneath the High?

Could it be medieval remains like those that were found when they dug up Cornmarket?

And where’s the money to come from?

Today’s letters

Ian Hudspeth must be desperate about the mess that the county council has made of Oxford’s traffic but that’s no excuse for coming up with such daft proposals.

The traffic “planners” still don’t seem to realise that congestion can be avoided if traffic is allowed to flow freely. They should be re-opening the High Street to all traffic and removing all the obstacles they have built in Oxford’s streets. This is particularly necessary now, when the OCC has caused such terrible congestion with its endless road schemes.
