The county councillors have been dreaming of monorails, trams and now a tunnel to ease congestion, and they have brought Oxford to its knees by doing all the road works at once. So why waste time and money dreaming of schemes which are only pipedreams?

As for the buses the council closed the High Street to the private motorist because of congestion and now we have buses using it as a bus park, or so it appears, when you see them all nose to tail unable to move. If you look at the buses outside the rush hour most have only a small number of passengers on them (if any). Why is there a need for a bus every 10 minutes from say Blackbird Leys into Oxford? Why is there a need for a bus from the park-and- rides into town every 15 minutes outside of the rush hour?

If our councillors were to take off their blinkers and walk down the high street in the daytime and look they would see most buses are near empty. The only good thing about the tunnel idea is if it stretched to Botley Road or Abingdon Road then it could be used as a drainage channel to take the flood water away – instead of it flooding people’s houses and businesses. But that would be too sensible an idea for councillors who are incapable of organising a few roadworks without bringing Oxford city centre to its knees.
