THE Oxford Labour Party has some explaining to do regarding the resignation of Steve Curran in Northfield Brook.
Whilst we accept that the circumstances surrounding the previous four resignations from the city council since May were a result of changes in personal circumstances, I do not accept that a further by-election costing the council another £4,000 should be precipitated by a new internal Labour Party rule created at their discretion and, so far, without justification.
The Oxford Labour Party need to: Explain why they feel a candidate cannot dual-hat, and explain why they cannot find another candidate to stand for the county council to prevent an unnecessary by-election.
At the very least we should hold both by-elections on the same day to save costs. Since May Labour have called by-elections that will have cost the city taxpayer well over £20,000.
To impose another completely unnecessary £4,000 on the citizens of the city is an insult.
