CONGRATULATIONS Oxfordshire County Council for causing absolute chaos and mayhem on our roads.

I witnessed a two mile tailback on the A40, from the Headington roundabout all the way back to the Wheatley slip roads.

All because the council, in their wisdom, decided to close the Bus Lane that runs from the Thornhill Park and Ride due west to the Headington Roundabout due to “improvements” being done there. This wasn’t even in the rush hour, it was at 1pm.

This, combined with all the other roadworks at Worcester and George Street, the Kennington roundabout and Hinksey Hill plus The Plain roundabout and no doubt a few other places.

I cannot believe that all these projects have to be done simultaneously as spokesman Paul Smith suggests.

If the London Road improvements in Headington had been done in the summer as originally planned it would have freed up at least one major route into Oxford.

Now, with the darker mornings and evenings and the bad weather to come, this will only cause more misery for thousands of motorists.

Alas though, it seems that we are in for a very difficult winter. Well done OCC, give yourselves a big pat on the back.
