The Abingdon Drayton Road housing development has been opposed at all stages by all political parties on all levels of local government, together with the local MP and Abingdon residents, for the last two years.
Last Thursday, at the re-hearing by Oxfordshire County Council of the proposals regarding the pedestrian crossings in Ock Street and Marcham Road, the last obstacle to the go- ahead for the development appears to have been removed.
It is a pattern repeated up and down the country.
Developers with deep pockets and the prospect of large profits see an outside chance and have successfully steamrollered local governments, starved of resources by central government, into submission. Where is democracy in all this?
