I went for my usual walk along the Thames in Lechlade at the end of last week and wasn’t aware I had dropped my purse until a card arrived in the post today.

Luckily for me, a very kind lady from Milton-under-Wychwood called Doreen was doing the same walk when she saw what looked like a red Coke can on the path and picked it up to put it in the bin. It was my purse.

What she did then was amazing. She went to the local shops and post office to ask if she could leave her telephone number in case I called in, but they were not interested. When she arrived home she phoned the police and was passed from pillar to post with no joy. She then contacted Halifax from a number on my card but because of Data Protection they were unable to help.

She refused to give up and wrote to me when she found the address on my driving licence. Within two hours of receiving the card I met up with Doreen and heard of her attempts to find me. With all the horrible stories one hears in the news these days, isn’t it nice to know there are people like Doreen about. She has restored my faith in human nature.
