As a regular reader of the Oxford Mail I am aware of your extensive coverage of the NHS. You also (rightly) draw attention to some of the pressures in the system, as well as good stories.

I would like to give you another good story. At the end of last year my GP advised me to undergo elective surgery for a long standing condition. I was referred to the Horton Hospital in Banbury. Fairly quickly I was given an appointment for an assessment.

I turned up on the day and was seen at 10am exactly which was spot on time, no waiting at all.

Later I had a pre-operation appointment, again seen on time and without waiting. The staff were friendly, helpful and professional at all time.

Last week I turned up for my surgery, again it happened on time.

A potentially substantial procedure with some possibly alarming complications was successfully carried out and I was discharged later the same day.

The quality of the care I received was of the very highest at all time, and I cannot praise them too highly. I am now convalescing well and should be back to full activity fairly soon.

I hope that your readers will remember accounts like this the next time they get a doom and gloom story. In my opinion the overall picture is much better than some think.

Cllr Bob Johnston, Kennington and Radley, Oxfordshire County Councillor
