There has been much discussion, with suggestions invited, for making cycling safer in the city, but none for how cyclists can contribute with safer cycling. Some of the unspent money available for the purpose could be used to distribute copies of the Highway Code to unsafe cyclists.
Pedestrians appear to have no voice on the city council to protect their interests when they conflict with those of cyclists. Without being consulted, pedestrians have made sacrifices which are being abused. Bicycles (as well as scooters) can now be found on all parts of all pavements (whether permitted or not) and in the parks.
Money has been found to make the towpath suitable to more frequent and speedier cycling, regardless of it thus being more hazardous for walking.
Perhaps we need designated walking paths as much as cycle paths where one or two can take a stroll.
