SUNDAY'S Cowley Road Carnival was a fabulous celebration and Oxfordshire’s biggest street party, attended by our biggest crowd yet of 45,000 people.

The atmosphere was fantastic and everyone had a wonderful time.

There was something for everyone, from Baby Boogie to face-painting, therapies, music of all types, dance, art and food from around the world, as well as a multitude of stalls giving information and offering activities.

Thanks to everyone who came and made it our best party yet.

The carnival was a huge success, blessed by fine weather, with a few drops of rain falling at 6pm just as the event came to a conclusion.

By 7pm the road was re-opened thanks to a fantastic job by our contractors, the city council’s Streetscene team.

I would like to point out that the unfortunate stabbing incident at Blanco took place just before 8pm, two hours after the carnival ended and crowds had dispersed.

I would also like to take the opportunity to thank all our volunteers, musicians, dancers and performers who all helped make the day so memorable. They all give their services entirely free of charge.

However, the event does cost over £100,000 to put on and I would urge anyone who came and enjoyed their day this year to help ensure we can continue to hold Carnival on the street, by donating what they can by text to: CRNV14 £2 (or preferred amount) to 70070, or through the The Big Give link or ‘donate’ page on our website cowleyroadcarnival.co.uk. Thanks also to our funders and sponsors including Oxford City Council, Mini Plant Oxford and all the others, large and small, who help make it happen.
