I WAS intrigued to read John Maden of UKIP’s letter (April 15) which advocated a pay-rise for our nurses.

Of course, our nurses do a sterling job and are much more deserving of a pay-rise than politicians, but I wonder whether Mr Maden has gone slightly off message.

Surely he knows that a high proportion of our nurses and hospital staff are migrant workers, in fact, our NHS and care services would simply collapse without their migrant workforce. If UKIP had their way and migrant workers were sent home, our hospitals and NHS would grind to a halt.

Also, UKIP have made no secret of the fact they would put large sections of the NHS up for sale – from ambulances to hospital wards, services would be auctioned off to the highest bidder. The NHS would have nothing left other than a logo.

People angry at David Cameron’s broken promises over our the NHS would be advised to give UKIP a wide berth. It would be like jumping out of the frying pan into the fire.
