IT IS not often that I have felt ashamed of my city, but the fiasco over the Passion Play by a city council official making the national press has made me somewhat ashamed.
I wonder if any action is being taken to address this jobsworth’s ignorance of our national religion – Christianity.
I feel sure that this person would have not made the same mistake should the application have come from the many other faiths practised in Oxford. It would have been simple for them to confirm in seconds that this play was not sexually-orientated.
I would recommend that the council learns lessons from this and educates all its employees that Christianity is the major religion in this country (if not city) and they should have knowledge of all religions so they can carry out their work efficiently.
Questions need to be asked and answered regarding how this came about.
