MY partner (a practising Christian) and I (an atheist) note with interest that the city council at Easter was unaware of the concept of a Passion Play and so initially refused a licence, suggested by Thames Valley Police for such a ‘dangerous’ event.
However, we note that an event involving dinosaurs in Cornmarket, causing consternation to many, took place without impediment. Therefore, can we suggest, to get past the bureaucratic hurdles caused by a risk adverse police force and a ‘not quite sure what Easter is’ council (look it up on Google?) that next year, the Church just tweaks the Christian story a bit and has the crucifixion and resurrection story with dinosaurs somewhere in the mix?
It might not satisfy those with strong faith but it does achieve an outcome that at least pays lip service to the concept of Easter.
