THANK you for your front-page report on the enormity of the objection to the Doric plan for West Way.

I am saddened but not surprised by Mr Hillcox’s comments dismissing the mass of objections with the words: ‘We are aware that there has been an orchestrated objection’. Once again, the developer demonstrates a contempt for the people of Botley and their MP.

To my knowledge, never before in the Vale of White Horse have there been so many valid planning objections to a proposal.

Over 800 local people have made the effort to study the proposal and given valuable time to lodging their objections.

The attitude of the developer is much the same as it has been since the mockery of the so-called consultation when they presented their pre-determined plan which they have not substantially changed.

Most people want the West Way centre refurbished and development of the old Grant Thornton site. What we object to is the demolition of buildings that give Botley character and the bulldozing of Field House to make way for a cinema and an oversized supermarket.

I just hope that the planning department and committee of the Vale of White Horse will do the right thing and reject the proposal outright.
