THANK you for publishing the article on veganism (January 10).

Einstein said that “a vegetarian manner of living by its purely physical effect on the human temperament would most beneficially influence the lot of mankind”.

Hans-Gerhard Wagner, of the UN’s Food and Agricultural Organisation, has called the farming of livestock “an opportunity for emerging disease”.

As a result of being loaded with chemicals and antibiotics, farm animals develop impaired immune systems and disease spreads into the food chain, eventually attacking the human immune system and rendering us open to attack from animal viruses and cancer.

The only hope of defending ourselves is to eat plant-based vegan food.

Jaine Blackman’s account of the environmental impact of farming showed quite clearly that it is impossible to be an environmentalist while consuming any animal produce.
