LIFE LESSONS: Butcher's colourful life

This week we talk to Wantage butcher Vincent Montgomery WHAT I’M CALLED: This depends on who you ask, but, needless to say I have been called some very colourful names. The ones I can list with pride include: Father, Son, Sweetheart, buddy, Monty and Vince.

MY AGE IN YEARS: I am the youngest 50-year-old I have ever met.

WHAT I DO: In my working life I am a butcher, in my social life I am absent, In my home life I am more horizontal than vertical.

WHERE I LIVE: For my sins I live in Chiseldon, Swindon.

WHO I LOVE: I am very fortunate to love and be loved by my current partner, work colleague, carer, personal organiser, calming influence, money manager and devoted sufferer of 13 years, Chrissy.

HAPPIEST YEAR: Falling in love, for the first time, with the most innocent, pretty, happy-go-lucky angel, moulded by the caring hands of God, to make my life complete.

DARKEST MOMENT: About five minutes before leaving the scheming old hag witch with nothing more than the Co-op carrier bag containing what was left of my life.

PROUDEST BOAST: Winning the Swindon College therapist of the year award.

WORST WEAKNESS: I have been known to have the odd beer or two, oh and my obvious numerical weakness.

LESSONS LEARNED: Let go and relax, everything is in flux and whatever the situation appears to be at present, it will look very different very soon.

DULLEST JOB: De-nailing wood for recycling on a building site. This is also the only job that I have been sacked from.

GREATEST SHAME: I could not possibly burden you with this sort of information.

LIFE-LONG HERO: Actually my younger brother Vern, he is a very good businessman, has strong ethics, as well as being an honest, intelligent quick learner.

OLDEST FRIEND: My son Joseph, he has never let me down, I fill with pride when I see him.

WIDEST SMILE: When my daughter was born, this was the happiest time of my life, I was there to pull her out and cut her cord.

FAVOURITE DREAM: Flying at will, as fast and high as I choose, all I had to do was will it and it happened. An absolutely amazing feeling to have, even if it was only a dream.

BIGGEST REGRET: Missing the birth of my son Joseph.
