James Allen was arrested in connection with two killings
Police have been granted more time to question a man who went on the run after being accused of murdering two people in separate attacks.
James Allen, 36, was arrested on Sunday in Leeds after he was spotted by an off-duty police officer.
He is being questioned by Cleveland Police following the murder last week of 81-year-old Colin Dunford in Middlesbrough and 50-year-old Julie Davison in Whitby, North Yorkshire.
Allen is being held at a police station in Middlesbrough on suspicion of the two murders and a sexual assault.
A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: "Detectives investigating the murders of Colin Dunford and Julie Davison have obtained a warrant of further detention for the 36-year-old man arrested in the Leeds area early yesterday morning.
"The man remains in police custody in Middlesbrough undergoing questioning in relation to the two murders and a sexual assault."
