Dan Stokell, from Wantage, was third in the second round of the South West Tristar2 regional series at Gloucester.
Stokell, a member of Vale Tridents Triathlon Club and Wantage White Horses Swimming Club, moved up to fifth in the standings in his first year.
He left the pool in third place, after a fast-paced 200m swim, and had a smooth transition to the 4km bike ride on grass.
Stokell finished third in the 2km run, three seconds behind the second-placed triathlete.
