Today Charlton faced Tower Hill in the Oxfordshire Ron Smith U13 Youth Cup Second Round, two weeks previous they had lost to this team in a league game, so today was Charlton’s time to turn things around and show how well they really can play. It didn’t take long as Charlton were strong from the first kick of the ball. Within the first 5 minutes Charlton were putting pressure onto Tower in their own penalty area. Daniel Fowler pushing forward from midfield, took his chances and with some neat ball control planted the ball firmly in the back of the net. Tower didn’t seem to have a response and Charlton kept on pushing forward keeping the pressure on.

It was around the twentieth minute when Josh Newman latched onto a parry by the Tower keeper, hitting the ball low and hard Newman made it 2-0 to Charlton The second half saw much of the same kind of football for the first twenty minutes with Charlton deep in Towers half winning a throw in opposite Towers box, Daniel Fowler stepped up to take the throw which he took well only to find it coming straight back at him from a Tower defender, this time Fowler stepped up again with an extra 10% the ball was launched past Towers defence and found its way to Jack Harpers feet who calmly side footed into Towers net making it 3-0. This third goal seemed to fire Tower into action who the dug deep and pushed hard. They were rewarded 5 minutes later when Charlton were caught napping at the back making it 3-1. Again Tower pushed hard and it was Charlton’s turn to play deep and try to get off the back foot, unfortunately a mix up in Charlton’s defence led to Towers second goal. This led to a thrilling end to this fantastic match with the result still wide open and anyone’s game to win.

The last 2 minutes of the saw some nail biting moments with Charlton’s defence working hard, Cameron Pirie making some decisive headers at the back, but it was Loui Allam who made a match saving header to clear the ball out of his penalty area leaving three disappointed Tower players waiting to pounce on the high ball coming in. The match ended 3-2 to Charlton who now progress to the next round. Well done to all the players for a thrilling and entertaining afternoon of football Based on information supplied by David Allam.
