Two Oxfordshire doubles pairs finished runners-up in the British Veterans Grass Court Championships.

With the Olympics being held at Wimbledon, the tournament took place at North Oxford this year.

And in the 50’s men’s doubles Oxon’s Jeremy Wood and Tony Munsey went down 6-7 (7-4), 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) in a touch three-setter against Graeme Adams (Warwickshire) and Rajiv Batra (Middlesex).

Oxfordshire’s Bruce Young and Shamus Donald also just missed out, being beaten 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 by top seeds Chris Hill (Wales South) and Tony King (Warwickshire) in the 55’s men’s doubles final.

NORTH Oxford are chasing a title treble in the Oxfordshire LTA Wilson League.

With just two games remaining, the men’s and ladies’ teams are top of their respective divisions with the mixed team also in contentions for honours.

Oxford Sports A have clinch-ed promotion back to men’s Division 1, while Benson A move up to Division 4, Mapledurham to Division 5, David Lloyd B to Division 7, Portcullis B and Oxford Sports D to Division 11, and Woodstock B go up to Division 12.

In the ladies’ league, Banbury and Banbury West End have been promoted to Division 1.

Bicester move up to Division 3, Woodstock C go up to Division 7 and North Oxford E are elevated to Division 9.
