Rory Fruen became modern day tennis’s answer to William Tell when he won special target challenge at Norham Gardens Tennis Club in Summertown.
More than 50 youngsters attended the club’s juniors open morning, where the highlight was the ‘Federer, William Tell challenge’.
They attempted to win a Wilson racket, donated by Elmer Cotton (Oxford), by serving to knock a plastic bottle off a dummy’s head.
Roger Federer in his recent video appears to be successful with both his attempts.
Fruen, from the under 14 age group, emerged triumphant, while under 18 player Robert Brooks hit the target but did not dislodge it.
The best result in the under nines came from Casper Rae.
Jack Rooney, the 2009 Oxfordshire men’s singles champion, needed only a handful of attempts to send the target flying.
