NORTH Oxford’s men and women both suffered tiebreak shoot-out defeats in the AEGON Team Tennis competition, denting their promotion hopes.

The men were locked at 3-3 after the singles and doubles against Hampshire side Thornden in the South West Regional Division.

But Cameron Price and Josh Dawson were both beaten 10-3 in their tie-breaks.

The women played Woodstock in the county division and won both doubles matches to rally from 3-1 down and force a shoot-out.

But it was the west Oxfordshire side who prevailed, winning both singles tiebreaks 10-3 and 10-7 to go top.

l IN the Under 8 Inter-County event at Goslings Sports Centre in Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire’s girls finished ninth.

The team consisted of Maria Ustic, Iris Saville, Darcey Trotman, Libby Burgess, Mishel Andreeva and Darcey Groves.

They were beaten by Cambridge, Essex and Berkshire, but drew with Northampton, before winning a play-off against Norfolk 4-2.

Seth Carlisle, Kiyan Khonsari, Kai Wilkinson, Rohan Sivanendra, Raphael Forsythe and Luca Shirley represented the boys, who came tenth.
