OXFORD City Ladies clinched the Thames Valley Winter League Premier Division title this week, without even taking to the court.

North Oxford’s 5-3 home defeat by Virgin Active meant that City could not be caught.

Oxford Sports can still catch North Oxford at the top of Men’s Premier Division after an 8-0 win over Thame.

OXFORDSHIRE girls came sixth in the first LTA regional eight and under championships at St Albans.

Their team of Amalia Widdowson, Juliette Pinner, Maria Ustic, Scarlett Cairns, Iris Saville and Kitty Spurgeon lost 4-2 to Essex and 5-1 to Berkshire.

But inspired by Widdowson’s whitewash victory, and a comeback win from Spurgeon, they beat Bucks 4-2 and went on to beat Northants 4-2 and draw 3-3 with Suffolk.

Oxon’s boys team of Henry Henman, Louis Barron, Oliver Veal, Fraser Mackenzie, John Cairns and Jack Veal came ninth.
