The first of four weekends of free tennis take place across Oxfordshire tomorrow.

Families are being urged to give the sport a try at three locations in the county, with tennis fever starting to escalate in the build-up to Wimbledon next month.

People will be able to take part in cardio tennis, mini tennis, and coaching – all completely free as part of the Lawn Tennis Association and Tennis Foundation’s drive to get more people playing more often.

Opportunities to play are at Alexandra Courts, Summertown on Saturday and Sunday (12-4pm), North Oxford Tennis Club on Sunday (10-4) and Oxford Sports Tennis Club on Sunday (2- 4.30).

All venues will provide rackets and balls.

David Reeve, Oxfordshire tennis development manager, said: “We are really excited that the Great British Tennis Weekends are hitting Oxford this summer.

“With so many park sites and clubs right across the city running their own weekends, there really is something for everyone.

“I hope families take the opportunity to participate in these fantastic events and ready themselves for what is set to be Oxford’s biggest ever summer of tennis.”

County LTA chairman Nicky Maskens added: “Oxfordshire are right behind the Great British Tennis Weekend initiative, so we are hoping to see a great turn out.”

The other three Great British Tennis Weekends are on June 21-22, June 28-29 and July 19-20.
