OXFORD RL look to build on their promising 40-26 victory over South Wales Scorpions as they travel to high-flying Swinton Lions in Kingstone Press League 1 on Monday.

The Blues ended a seven-match losing streak with victory at South Wales for their first win away from home this season.

And coach Tim Rumford praised his side’s ability to see the game out.

“It was a real battle down at South Wales and we prepared for that,” he said.

“After 15 minutes we found ourselves three tries in front and I think some of our boys took their foot off the gas a little bit and thought maybe it was going to be slightly easier than it turned out.

“Credit to South Wales, they came back, but we withstood it and came up with enough at the back end of the game just to finish it off.”

Facing a Bank Holiday trip to Greater Manchester after the initial fixture was postponed back in April due to Challenge Cup involvement, Rumford admitted the clash with promotion-chasing Lions has not come at an ideal time for his side.

He said: “It is what it is and we’ve just got to get on with it.

“We’ll cobble a team together and go up to Swinton with a real good attitude and try and get some credibility out of the game.”
