Oxford RL crashed to a humiliating defeat in Kingstone Press League 1 with a 96-4 thrashing by Swinton Lions.

The match was switched to Hemel Hempstead due to maintenance work at Oxford’s Iffley Road pitch And Oxford found themselves on the end of a real battering.

Winger Ian Mort took the record for points in a match from 34 to 48 and increased the previous best for goals in a match from 13 to 14, with teammate Chris Atkin the record-holder on both counts.

Ben White opened the scoring on eight minutes and this was quickly followed by a Ritchie Hawkyard try, with both converted by Mort.

Mort added the next one when he dived in at the corner on 13 minutes and added the touchline conversion.

Rob Lever and Ritchie Hawkyard were next to cross the Oxford try line, while Mort raced in for a quick brace and converted three out of the four.

Atkin was next to strike four minutes from the break, with Andy Matthews providing the extras.

Just on the stroke of half-time, Darren Hawkyard scored on the right and again Mort converted to leave Oxford 52-0 down at the break.

There was no let-up after the interval as Atkin sent Connor Dwyer over on the left, with the conversion again successful.

Mort then equalled the points in a match record with a try in the corner which he converted.

Two more quick tries followed when Chris Rothwell and Andy Ackers crossed, and again they were both converted.

Mort and Atkin then both made good breaks to score, with Mort successful with one conversion.

Oxford finally hit back when Adam Withington scored by the posts, but Sean Morris failed to add the extras.

There was still time for Swinton to run in two more tries with Mike Morrison and Shaun Robinson both scoring, and Mort added two more conversions.

Oxford were left to troop off shellshocked.
