Gordon Ross says London Welsh must guard against another south west slip-up when they visit Cornish Pirates on Sunday (3).

Assistant coach Ross was part of the Exiles team that lost 36-15 at Plymouth Albion on their last Greene King IPA Championship trip to the region.

Since then Welsh have won four on the bounce, but Ross says the players will be warned about the Albion defeat before facing Pirates.

“We have got to be mindful of the last time we went down this part of the south west and had a poor day at Plymouth,” he said.

“It will be mentioned in the build-up towards this weekend to make sure the boys are focused.

“We know we are going to get a massive challenge from a Pirates side that probably deserved to win at Bristol last week.”

Sunday’s match was due to take place on February 16, but fell foul of the weather.

Should Welsh win their game in hand in Penzance, they will climb to second in the table, potentially just two points behind leaders Bristol.

Now that pitches are drying out, the conditions are better suited to running rugby, but Ross is not predicting a change of playing style.

“We play a pretty direct game, which gives us a lot of go forward,” said Ross.

“I don’t think we’ll change too much.”
