London Welsh looked liked ending a sequence of 22 defeats this season when they led Newport Gwent Dragons 13-3 at half-time in their final LV= Cup match at Rodney Parade yesterday.

However, the hosts hit back to extend Exiles’ barren run with a 17-13 victory.

Newport scored second-half tries through wing Tom Prydie and replacement scrum half Richie Rees, with Prydie adding both conversions in addition to an earlier penalty.

Welsh had put themselves in a strong position thanks to a try from wing Nick Scott, The ball was spun across the line from the left.

Full back Will Robinson fed Scott and sent him past home centre Pat Leach on the angle to cross the line.

Fly half Tristan Roberts converted and added two penalties to put Welsh in charge at the break.

But the hosts found a way to spare their blushes and give coach Lyn Jones victory over his former side.

Neither team had anything to play for in the competition as both were bottom of their respective groups at the start of the match
