CARL Kirwan will captain a London Welsh side featuring nine changes at Cornish Pirates tomorrow (3).

Flanker Kirwan deputises for centre Tom May, who drops to the bench.

Full back Alan Awcock, wing Seb Stegmann and centre Sonny Parker all come into the side, while James Tincknell moves from No 12 to 13 in place of May.

Prop Alec Hepburn, hooker Nathan Vella, lock Ben West and No 8 Ollie Stedman start in the pack, with Dan Browne moving to blindside flanker.

Josh Watkins, Joe Ajuwa drop out from the backs as does Mitch Lewis, while his fellow forwards Nathan Morris, Nathan Trevett and Ian Nimmo move to the bench.

With their large squad , the Exiles coaches are have many selection headaches.

Assistant coach Gordon Ross said: “Two or three weeks ago, we were lucky to get a back line together, but now it is the opposite problem.

“When the guys are training, they are working their socks off.

“They know if they are not putting the full effort in, they won’t play.”

Chris Morgan returns at blindside flanker to captain the Pirates, while triple Oxford University Blue Alex Cheesman starts at openside.

Director of rugby Ian Davies said: “A very tough match is expected as London Welsh have performed consistently all season and it is no surprise to see them challenging for promotion.”
