BANBURY clinched a play-off place with a superb 57-30 home win over Wimborne.

Tommy Gray crossed for a hat-trick of tries, with Jack Briggs and Dan Brady both diving over twice in the South West 1 East clash.

Trailing Old Patesians by four points, Bulls could still win the title, but they will at least be in a play-off against the West runners-up.

Gray crossed after 30 seconds and soon scored his 16th and 17th league tries of the season, Ed Phillips converting twice, to make it 19-0.

Paul Roberts kicked a penalty for Wimborne, but Banbury led 29-3 at the break, thanks to unconverted tries from Jimmy Manley and Brady.

Sam Stoop was sin-binned for Bulls, but the hosts extended their advantage when Briggs crossed and Phillips added the extras.

Dylan Case touched down for Wimborne, Roberts converting, but Banbury replied to make it 50-10 following tries from Brady and Giles Saar, Phillips converting both.

Wimborne finished with a flurry after Cameron Taylor and Case crossed, Roberts adding the extras.

But Banbury had the last say, Briggs diving over for try No 8, which Phillips converted.

Oxford Harlequins earned a 44-22 win at Old Centralians.

But they had to do it the hard way after conceding four tries in the first half to trail 22-14 at the break.

Charlie Craig and Ed Yeates had crossed for the visitors, with James Stacey adding the extras.

Quins improved, with Martin Nutt, Charlie Craig, Robin Craig and Chris Davies scoring tries, Stacey converting three of them.

Witney suffered a 43-23 defeat at home to Old Patesians.

The hosts led 10-0 after seven minutes, thanks to Dave Hankinson’s try, converted by Tom Puddle, who had earlier kicked a penalty.

Old Pats opened up a 19-10 advantage at the break, thanks to tries from James Hayden, James Aherne and Steffan Morgan, Olly Aherne adding the extras on two occasions.

Witney hit back when Puddle crossed, before Chris Dean went over for the visitors.

With Scott Mortimer and George Lewis in the sin-bin, James Hessian, Duncan Spurrier and Gethin Evans dived over for Old Pats, Ahearne converting twice.

Lewis crossed late on for Witney, but it was only a consolation.

Grove fell to a 43-27 home defeat at the hands of Salisbury.

Tries from Dave Maryon, who also kicked 12 points, Guy Nicholl and Paul Miles put the hosts 27-0 in front at half-time.

But Maryon suffered a broken arm and Connor Hull a knee injury before Grove capitulated.

Basement boys Bicester lost 30-25 at home to Stratford upon Avon.

The hosts had Shaun Reddish sent off in the first half.

Bicester’s Dave Lawther, Freddie Myatt and Peter Tarrega crossed, Charlie Bethell kicking ten points.
