WHEATLEY knocked holders Oxford University Whippets out of the Oxfordshire Shield with a 19-5 home victory.

An Aaron Laman penalty put the hosts into an early lead in the first round tie.

James Butler was then pushed over from a scrum, Laman converting, as Wheatley made it 10-0.

The home side continued to apply pressure and another Laman penalty extended their advantage to 13 points.

Whippets replied before the break when Russell Reid crossed for an unconverted try.

But there was still time for Wheatley to make it 16-5 at half-time, thanks to another Laman penalty.

The fly-half also kicked the only points after the break as the hosts progressed.

Littlemore reached the semi-finals with a 33-12 home win against Abingdon.

After withstanding early pressure, the hosts took the lead when Aaron Ward went over, Stewart Beale converting.

Littlemore were then awarded a penalty try as they made it 14-0 at the break.

Despite being under pressure, Abingdon hit back with two tries in the second half.

But Cameron Bashford, Beale, who converted twice, and Ben Symington crossed to earn Littlemore the victory.

A late penalty saw Alchester beat Harwell 13-10 in Bicester.

The visitors led 5-3 at half-time, thanks to a Lewis Giddings try, which cancelled out a penalty for the home side.

Another Giddings score extended Harwell’s lead to seven points, but a late converted try for Alchester levelled the scores.

And the hosts secured victory with the last kick of the game after being awarded a penalty.

Blue Boar were handed a walkover by Faringdon.
