ALAN Hancock described Oxford Harlequins’ 36-13 victory over Trowbridge at a blustery Marston Ferry Road as their best result of the season.

Quins ran in six tries to preserve their unbeaten home record and go five games without defeat in South West 1 East.

The victory lifted them to seventh in the table and head of rugby, Hancock, was pleased with the performance.

He said: “That was our best result of the season.

“We had the set piece and we capitalised on it.

“We’re in a happy place at the moment.”

A catch and drive led to No 8 Robin Craig going over for an unconverted try on two minutes, before Lloyd Davis slotted a penalty for the visitors.

Trowbridge enjoyed a ten-minute spell of pressure and made it 8-5 when Davis dived over.

But Quins responded immediately, their pack driving the visitors back, and it was largely one-way traffic from there on.

Prop Kyle Sharpe was forced over on 24 minutes, before scrum half Jack Avery plucked the ball from the base of a ruck to touch down after visiting hooker Dan Phillips was yellow-carded.

Sam Watkinson converted both scores for a 19-8 lead at half-time.

Prop Pete Boulton was sin-binned ten minutes after the break, but that did not stop Quins from securing the four-try bonus point, with Jack Crowe intercepting Davis’ pass to race to the line.

Watkinson converted to make it 26-8.

Trowbridge hit back through Henry Turner, but Axel Poulet and Watkinson crossed for unconverted tries.

Replacement Stu MacDonald was yellow-carded late on, but Quins were well in control.

Rhys Morgan scored a hat-trick of tries as Witney crushed bottom side Swanage & Wareham 47-12.

George Lewis converted his own try after less than a minute, before Morgan crossed to make it 12-0.

David Elford dived over for the visitors, but a Henry Lamb penalty saw Witney lead 15-5 at the break.

Within seven minutes of the second half it was 30-5, with Matthew Webb, Gareth Campbell and Morgan touching down.

Matt Clarke added to the visitors’ misery with a converted try, before Sam Collins made it 42-5.

Robert Elford replied for the visitors, Phil Graves adding the extras, but Morgan completed his hat-trick.

Meanwhile, Grove lost 29-17 at Leighton Buzzard.
